NESA Exam Statistics
According to the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), this year’s examinations witnessed a remarkable turnout, with 209,829 candidates sitting for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), while 131,482 students took the O-level exams.
Following the official release at 11 a.m., candidates and stakeholders can conveniently access their results through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) portal ([www.nesa.gov.rw](www.nesa.gov.rw)). This online service provides a user-friendly platform for students to check their results quickly and efficiently.
PLE and O’ Level
Here’s a breakdown of the results for both PLE and O’ Level.
Primary Leaving Examination (PLE):
– Total registered students: 203,086 students from 3,644 schools
– Number of examination centres: 1,097
– Students who sat for exams: 201,679
– Pass rate: 91.1%, including 55.29% girls
– Top-performing subjects: Kinyarwanda, Religion, Sciences, and English
Ordinary Level (O’ Level):
– Total registered students: 131,602 students from 1,799 schools
– Number of examination centres: 669
– Students who sat for exams: 131,501
– Pass rate: 86.97%, including 54% of girls
– Top-performing subjects: Kinyarwanda, English, and Physics
Best-performing students
Additionally, the Minister of Education, Gaspard Twagirayezu, announced that the best-performing students will be rewarded with a tuition fee waiver for one year, a generous gift from Umwalimu Sacco, along with a laptop and scholastic materials.
For students seeking admission to boarding schools, the pass note for girls joining Senior 1 from PLE is 26, while it is 25 for boys. In O’ Level, the boarding school pass note is 17 for both boys and girls.
Nelson Mbarushimana, Director General of the National Examination and School Inspection Authority, emphasized that students had the opportunity to make three school choices, with priority for placement based on performance. The best-performing students receive their preferences according to available places. However, appeal options are available online and at the district level, where NESA staff can assist complainants.
New TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Schools
As the academic year progresses, Rwanda is also gearing up to open 90 new TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) schools, aligning with the national target to enrol 60% of students in TVET schools by 2024. These developments underscore Rwanda’s commitment to providing quality education and expanding opportunities for its youth.
